Mama Cucina, Innsbrook is hiding something good.
Written on 13 November 2007 by Kamen
You can’t see it from Broad Street. You are certain to miss it even on COX. You may not even see it when you stop by Dairy Queen. But it’s there and it’s great!
We stumbled upon Mama Cucina in our continuing attempt to check out every restaurant in Innsbrook. It doesn’t look like much, inside or out, but that is usually the sign of something good and off the beaten path. We have been back a couple of times and there is something nice about the same friendly face greeting you as they open the door and being able to remember the waitresses from the last visit. It adds that personal touch that so many restaurants lack these days.
I have had the stuffed chicken breast several times and it was awesome each and every time. The salads are good and though the portions are big, save room for desert. Deserts are made in house and you will want your own.
Money wise, you can go into any restaurant, order a four courser, and gasp at the bill, so I am sure you can do that here. But, a decent dinner is very reasonable.
Put Mama Cucina on your list of places to go, it is certainly worth a try and I bet you just might end up there a second time.
It’s Friday, take off the afternoon and chip some ice!

Henrico County Now Under Mandatory Water Restrictions
Written on 24 October 2007 by KamenLast night Henrico County voted and it’s official, the Volunteer Water Conservation Measures have been dropped and we are now under Mandatory Water Restrictions. This was no surprise as Richmond had already decided to be under mandatory water restrictions and other counties were considering the same.
The only bit of irony for this story is that it’s raining. It won’t be enough to recover from the water shortage, but it’s enough for a good chuckle.

Some object to the Twin Hickory canopy
Written on 23 October 2007 by KamenTwin Hickory Elementary recently built a new canopy over their playground. This canopy covers a large portion of the playground equipment and was constructed to allow a child with a sun allergy to be outside with everyone else. The cost of the canopy was $24,000 and was put up by school officials with money taken out of the operating budget. Some parents and neighbors have stepped up to oppose the 30-40 square foot canopy, offering that there may have been better ways to accommodate one child’s disability.

Voluntary Water Conservation Measures
Written on 23 October 2007 by KamenInnsbrook.com has posted a message reminding everyone that voluntary water conservation measures have been implemented and urges everyone to do their part. Innsbrook also noted that they are doing their part in the effort by cutting back the runtime of their irrigation system. They also mentioned that the irrigation system is primarily supplied by the lakes in Innsbrook.

UPDATE: Henrico and Petersburg will be voting Tuesday night to join the growing list of localities under mandatory water restriction.
West Broad Village
Written on 21 October 2007 by KamenThe old family farm is gone and West Broad Village is appearing before our eyes. I stopped by the construction sign yesterday and got the current list of tenants that are going to be showing up.
- Old Navy
- Whole Foods Market
- First Market Bank
- Mimi’s Cafe
- Wachovia Bank
- Famous Footwear
That’s the list so far. I’m sure more names will show up on the board before it’s all over with.
